2020 Prod Sports Round 2 Preview

    July 9, 2020

    Lachlan Mansell

While the field for this weekend’s Production Sports round may be relatively compact, the driver lineup consists of some high-quality drivers and cars, including the returning Andrew Macpherson in his Porsche GT3-R.

Macpherson has been competing in Asia in recent times, but with overseas racing options limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he has wheeled out his Porsche GT3-R for a run on home turf. Macpherson won’t have things all his own way though; Nick Kelly in the Audi R8 GT3 is bound to mount a stiff challenge, while reigning champion Jason Miller’s Porsche 997 Cup car may be slower on paper, but is still capable of challenging the GT-class cars in Miller’s talented hands.

The Class B battle also promises to be intriguing with all four entries likely to be closely matched. Adrian Wilson and Andre Nader are constantly improving in their BMW M4, while Glenn Townsend has done a lot of laps around Wakefield Park in his Lotus, highlighted by multiple podium finishes in the popular Wakefield 300 endurance race. The Valery Muzman/Steve Wan Lotus Exige Cup R won Class B in both races at Sydney Motorsport Park and enters the round as the overall points leader.
